About CosmetiScan
CosmetiScan rates the claims on your cosmetics against the published evidence — so you can tell "clinically proven" from "sounds nice".
What we do
Every skincare, haircare, and makeup product makes promises: "reduces fine lines", "hydrates for 24 hours", "non-comedogenic". Most of those claims are marketing. CosmetiScan takes each claim on a product's label or page, finds the evidence behind it, and gives it a clear verdict — Supported, Plausible, Weak, Unsupported, or Can't tell.
How we rate a claim
- We extract the claim from the product's label, page, or listing.
- We map it to a benefit — hydration, barrier repair, sun protection, and so on.
- We check the evidence — is there a published study, and does it test the ingredient at a dose that actually does the thing?
- We grade it on the strength of that evidence, and show you better-evidenced alternatives when a claim falls short.
We rate the evidence, never the company. Every verdict points back to the underlying ingredient, dose, and study.
The rating scale
If the evidence isn't there, we say so — we'd rather report "can't tell" than pretend.
Affiliate disclosure
Some "Buy" links on this site are affiliate links. If you tap one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are always labelled, and they never change our ratings — a product is rated on its evidence, full stop.
